May 18, 2010 – JPM Motorsport recently hosted the inaugural JPM Superdrive Challenge Kota Bharu 2010 from 14 – 16 May 2010. The event was opened to any and every driving enthusiast, and received strong support from owners of sports cars, supercars, and motorbikes.

The registration list was eventually finalised with a total of 61 participants, with Ferraris, Porsches, Lamborghinis, Volkswagens, other car makes and Harley Davidsons being some of the fine vehicles involved.

The JPM Superdrive was a 565km drive, and took drivers from the highways of Kuala Lumpur to the suburban streets of Kota Bharu, where participants were given the choice to participate in 2 time-based challenges while on the journey to their destination:

• TimeBall Challenge – Where participants competed to complete the journey in the shortest time possible.
• Time Challenge – Where participants competed to complete the journey in a pre-determined duration of time.

The Superdrive was flagged off from SP Setia Eco Park in Setia Alam at 9:28am on 14th May 2010. And after a registration period, a hearty breakfast, and a safety briefing given by Mr. JP Chin, all made possible courtesy of SP Setia, drivers started their journey via the Guthrie Corridor Highway, onto the NKVE, and through to Simpang Pulai where a compulsory stop was required.

The drive then continued through the challenging roads of Blue Valley towards Gua Musang, where a 1 hour fuelling and lunch stop at the Shell Gemilang Filling Station was made compulsory. Cars and participants took the opportunity to “freshen” up during this 1 hour stop and participants were treated to their first taste of Kelantanese food courtesy of the Shell Gemilang Filling Station.

The drive eventually continued towards Kuala Krai, and finally arriving at Villa Danialla, thanks to the escort services of the Kelantan Marshalls and Police. Participants were then welcomed with an aerial stunt show and a much deserved hearty dinner.r.

Day 2 of the event resumed with an escorted convoy to the stadium where the JPM Time Attack Challenge was held on a pre-set course in one of the stadium’s car parks.

The session was also graced by the attendance of the Menteri Besar of Kelantan; Dato’ Nik Aziz who was not only a spectator, but also enjoyed a ride of his own in a Mitsubishi Evolution X driven by TJ Chin on the course where participants continued to take turns to challenge each other’s fastest lap times.

For participants who didn’t want to use their cars, a Lotus Exige S was available for “rental” with a fee of RM200 that would be donated to the welfare of Kelantan.

After another amazing aerial show, participants then adjourned to a hall where they were provided with a brief presentation of the Kelantan State’s Development in 2010 over a hearty lunch. It was also made official that the JPM Superdrive Challenge Kota Bharu 2010 was the biggest automotive-related event to be held in the state. Participants later returned to Villa Danialla to attend a Gala Dinner and prize presentation ceremony, where the winners of the past 2 days were announced.

The JPM Superdrive concluded the next day as participants made their journey back to Kuala Lumpur in the morning, undoubtedly looking forward to a follow up event which will definitely be held in 2011.
