SUPER GT 2011 SERIES BACK FOR THE 11TH YEAR BIGGER AND BETTER!
JP Performance Motorsport Sdn Bhd signed on as the new organiser of the revered Super Grand Touring race series

KUALA LUMPUR, 19 FEB 2011 : The Super GT 2011 Series is all set to woo Malaysian fans for the 11th year as they announce the appointment of JP Performance Motorsport Sdn Bhd (JPM) during a signing ceremony with GTA Company Limited at Hotel Equatorial in Kuala Lumpur today.
The illustrious motorsport event will be held at the Sepang International Circuit from June 18-19.
JPM Motorsport has been awarded the rights by the GTA for the 2011 and 2012 editions. The baton was passed on to JPM to carry the Super GT tradition in Malaysia with hopes of producing an even more electrifying event.
"Super GT is the fastest Super Grand Touring car race in the world and it will be an honour to host it. SIC has been doing an excellent job before this and with their assistance we hope to make this year’s event another major success in the Malaysian racing calendar,” said JPM Founder Chin Jit Pyng.
As an established branded event, Super GT has been in Malaysia for the past 10 years with its own following and is the only round to be held out of Japan. JPM has taken on the challenge of organising the Super GT series as a commercial venture and aims to present the fans with the finer sides of this coveted event. "This is a golden opportunity that we must capitalise on as the Super GT itself is very unique in its own way. We welcome funding and support of any sort," Chin continued.
Motorsport fans can look forward to seeing the biggest number of brands participating the Super GT race; from the three major Japanese manufacturers of Honda, Toyota/Lexus and Nissan in the GT500 class, to the privateers using Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Porsches, Mosler, Corvette, Subaru and many more in the GT300 class.
"Besides the hot action on and off the track, this time around the goal is also to give back to the fans," according to Chin.
For the first time in the Malaysian Super GT history, JPM will also be introducing several corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities, including cultural exchange programmes between the two nations, blood donation drive, and a road safety campaign.
The Sepang International Circuit will also be transformed into a carnival city filled with stalls and booths where race-goers will be able to eat, shop, and play while experiencing the heat of excitement from the Super GT.
Other side activities include the GT Queen Pageant, Anime costume competition, car clubs gathering, and mini concerts among others.
With all the promotional activities scheduled, getting admission to the event will be easy as there will be ticketing agents available throughout the Klang Valley and nation.
“We will also be having offers for regional fans to enjoy the Super GT, which includes reaching out to Singaporeans, Thais and Indonesians thus also promoting tourism for the country,” said Chin.
Also present at the signing ceremony was GTA Chairman Masaaki Bandoh.
“With the additional campaigns in store, it is clear the organisers do not only want the boyfriends, husbands and fathers to enjoy the race but the rest of the family members as well,” said Bandoh.
Present on behalf of SIC was CEO Razlan Razali, while Melvin Choo represented Team Thunder Asia / GT300. Also attended to witness the ceremony was several reputable corporations.
ABOUT SUPER GT

Formerly known as the All-Japan Grand Touring Car Championship (JGTC), the Super GT Series is a grand touring car race series promoted by the GT Association (G.T.A.). It was first established in 1993 by the JAF (Japanese Automobile Federation) via its subsidiary company the G.T.A. (GT Association).
In order to maintain competitiveness and prevent the spiraling budgets of teams, JGTC imposed strict limits on power, and heavy weight penalties on race winners in an openly-stated objective to keep on-track action close with an emphasis on keeping the race goers happy.
There are two categories for the participating cars: GT500 and GT300 (cars with no more than 500 and 300 horsepower). These power outputs are capped via the use of intake restrictors although some heavier cars are given allowances to run larger restrictors to maintain parity.
GT500
Regulations in GT500 are considerably looser than most GT classifications, and teams are free to change engines with other models made by the manufacturer, change the alignment of the engine, or add forced-induction systems to models which do not normally have it, however from 2010 onwards all GT500 cars run V8 engines displacing 3.4 liters. The new regulations result in cars that are possibly the fastest GT racing cars in the world. The rationale for this was to allow manufacturers to field competitive cars without having to spend large amounts of money for homologation versions of the race car's road car counterparts (although some companies, notably Honda and Nissan, have still developed homologation specials).
GT300
The GT300 category tends to be much more varied in terms of types of cars entered, although GT300 cars are much more regulated than their GT500 counterparts. This is because GT300 cars closely resemble road-going versions. The GT300 series is a racing category that has one of the most makes in the same time in the world.
